Volunteers
-
Why do you implement your activities with volunteers?
Non Govermental Organisations are institutions who achieve and spread social cooperation based on volunteerism and active involvement. As being one of the pioneering NGO's in Turkey, we provide an important opportunity for thousands of young volunteers to participate in public development and be involved in our country's future. As a result, we continue our work with the support and participation of volunteers. At the same time we have a professional staff working in our Headquarters, Education Parks, Learning Units, City Representative Offices and Firefly Mobile Learning Units.
-

Everyone who embraces the work and objectives of the Foundation and is aged 18 and over, with at least a high school graduate and can spare at least 2 hours a week during activity periods can apply to become a volunteer.
-
Can I be a volunteer without presenting all the requested paperwork?
No. A passport photo and copy of the ID card is required in the registration process and all volunteer candidates should bring in their "legal clean records" before participating in Communication Training. It is not possible to complete the Step by Step Volunteering process and become a volunteer before completing these paper works.
-
Why can't high school students who are younger than 18 be volunteers?
18 years threshold (being adult legally) is a necessity coming from the Civil Law. Besides, since our target group consists of children between ages of 7-16, we prefer high school graduates since our volunteers act as "role models". However according to the circumstances there may be some exceptional cases. The high school students who would like to volunteer should establish a corporate relationship between our Foundation and their school management. Our Foundation appiles it only in necessary cases and make sure that the high school students attend activities as assistant volunteers with some experienced volunteer.

We recommend that a volunteer attends to at most two activities in a semester. for the effectiveness of the volunteer and the activity .

There are no legal restrictions in terms of public adminstration and our Foundations activities that prohibit them to become volunteers. It is enough for them to embrace the objectives and the work of our Foundation.
-
Can TEGV end someone's volunteering process?
Yes it can. The items on the "Volunteer Contract" involved in the Step By Step Volunteering Procedure determine the responsibilities of the volunteers. If the volunteer does not fulfill his /her responsibilities, his/her volunteering process could be terminated. Since the target population of our Foundation is "the children" volunteer coordination is a sensitive issue. It is important for our volunteers to be role models in every aspect. The volunteers who do not fulfill the responsibilities defined in the Volunteer Contract could not be a good model for our children and other volunteers. The volunteers whose volunteering process hasbeen terminated ,could not engage in any volunteer activities in any of our locations.
-
Can I volunteer in the activity locations other than the ones in the city I am living in?

These trainings, which we call Standard Volunteer Trainings, are interactive sharing environments in which the basic concepts about communication skills, effective classroom management and constructivist approaches are presented and the volunteers and our personnel get to know each other.
-
Can I ask for a letter of recommendation in regarding my volunteer work?
Yes. All our volunteers who volunteered actively at least one term could ask for a letter of recommendation from our professionals. If suitable, the activity location personnel would forward this demand to Education and Volunteer Department and the letter of recommendation will be sent to our volunteer.
